Cherokee Gin & Cotton Company is a partnership of Lindsey Bros. Inc. and Jordan Cotton that was formed in 2000. The two companies, each with a long history of providing ginning and marketing services to local cotton producers, partnered to form a full service company for cotton farmers including top quality and efficient ginning services, module hauling, and a valuable marketing service. Cherokee Gin also provides low-cost cotton storage to its customers through its partnership with Plaza Cotton Storage, LLC.
Lindsey Bros. Inc. has been in the cotton ginning industry since 1932. It was originally organized by J.D. and R.F. Lindsey who were succeeded by R.F.’s sons, Vann and Ray. Vann’s son, Richard, later joined and managed the business. The Lindsey’s operated three gins in the Alexis and Osceola communities of rural Cherokee County over the 68 years that they were in business before the founding of Cherokee Gin and Cotton Co. Richard and his son, Rich, now manage the business.
Jordan Cotton has been in the cotton ginning business since 1896. It was formed by J.T. Jordan and his son Hoyt under the name J.T. Jordan & Son. Hoyt’s two sons, George and Tom later joined and managed the business. The Jordan’s operated two gins in the Bomar community of Cherokee County during the 104 years that they were in business before the founding of Cherokee Gin and Cotton Co. George’s daughter, Freida McMichen, and grand-daughter Mindy Bruce, now manage the business.
